News from Member Organisations December 2025 - Italy

The Italian Association of Occupational Therapy (AITO) is proud to announce its collaboration in the publication of an important paper on the occupational therapy workforce, entitled

Supply Shortages of the Occupational Therapy Workforce in Italy: Cross-regional and Nationwide Analysis against Key Benchmarks.”

The article will be available in the coming days in BMC Health Services Research.

Continuing its commitment to advancing the discussion on the occupational therapy workforce, AITO has also opened the Call for Abstracts for the next National Congress, entitled:

Shaping the Occupational Therapy Workforce through Research: Connecting Practice Domains and Emerging Roles.”

Occupational therapists and OT students are warmly invited to submit their abstracts here.

The Congress will take place on 22–23 May 2026 at the University of Genoa.

Four awards will be presented:

  • Best Oral Presentation (€150)
  • Best Poster Presentation (€150)
  • Best Bachelor Thesis
  • Best Master’s Thesis

We are honored to announce that Samantha Shann, outgoing WFOT President, will join us as a special guest at the Congress.

Her presence will be a valuable opportunity to celebrate her remarkable contribution to the international occupational therapy community — and, in particular, her support for the growth of Italian occupational therapists.

AITO also continues to promote professional competence and public awareness through a series of webinars held on national awareness days.

The most recent event, dedicated to stroke rehabilitation and organized in collaboration with the Italian Stroke Association (Patients’ Association), highlighted the importance of building strong alliances across professional and patient communities to enhance the quality and visibility of occupational therapy practice.

We look forward to receiving your contributions and to welcoming you to Genoa, to share research, experiences, and new perspectives on the future of our profession.
