Job Summary: Provides clinical patient care by administering appropriate treatment as assigned by the occupational therapist. Provides documentation by maintaining appropriate treatment records. Provides expert instructions to patients, patients' families, and students. Responsible for upkeep of equipment and resource materials.
Minimum Education: Associate's Degree in Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant from an accredited program.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Valid State of Oklahoma Licensure in Occupational Therapy Assist.
Work Experience: 0 - 6 months related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to use computers, basic computer knowledge, as needed for data input and reporting. Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Effective time management skills.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Provides clinical patient care by administering appropriate treatment. Administers appropriate treatment as assigned by the occupational therapist. Progresses patient treatment as per direction of COT. Carries patient load that reflects productivity standards. Provides documentation by maintaining appropriate treatment records. Meets and/or modifies functional goals of patients. Maintains treatment records to include re-evaluations, progress notes, discharge summaries, and education record, updated in an appropriate time frame. Provides expert instructions to patients, patients’ families, and students. Documents understanding and instruction of home programs to patient/family. Plans and/or presents one in-service yearly. Designs adaptive devices; suggests adaptations of equipment and/or environment in accordance with patient’s needs. Assists with students and volunteers, equipment, and/or environment. Maintains competency through continuing educational activities. Attends 95% of in-services and departmental meetings. Attends one or more educational sessions per year. Earns 10 contact hours toward COTA license. Meets TJC requirements. Follows set guidelines for daily operations in order to assist with administration of department. Completes accurate daily patient charge sheet. Is responsible for upkeep of equipment and resource materials. Schedules and prioritizes daily work assignments. Consistently clocks in and out in accordance with department standards.
Decision Making: Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.
Working Relationships: Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Leads others in same work performed (does not supervise). Has input on performance evaluations but does not prepare or give. Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
