En Algérie, l'ergothérapie est une discipline paramédicale qui vise à accompagner les personnes ayant des limitations physiques, mentales ou sociales afin de leur permettre de retrouver, maintenir ou améliorer leur autonomie dans les activités de la vie quotidienne, scolaire, professionnelle ou sociale.
L’ergothérapie est l’art et la science d’aider une personne à accomplir les activités qui lui sont significatives malgré un handicap, une maladie ou un trouble du développement.
Le métier est encadré par le ministère de la Santé.
Les ergothérapeutes sont souvent formés dans les instituts paramédicaux agréés.
Il existe des services d’ergothérapie dans les hôpitaux, les centres de rééducation fonctionnelle.
