May 1st, International Work’s Day

The AATO, through the Professional Practice Chapter, commemorates this May 1st, International Work’s Day, in homage to Chicago Martyrs (1886) who gave their lives for the right about 8 hours of work, which we are losing today.

This conquest was the product of worker’s struggle, is currently blurred as a consequence of job insecurity suffered by all of us who provide services and goods for the community, which deepens with the unemployment rates.

The fear of losing a job or the difficulties to find it call us to redouble efforts to not accept working under any condition that threatens our lives. If we accede, we will not only condemn ourselves but also future generations of colleagues.

Recovering the labor rights that were violated must be part of our daily task, both for the people and communities that require our attention and care, and for ourselves.

Beyond the trade or profession que we hold, we have a denominator that unifies us, we are generators of the wealth of our country and the fore we deserve to be respected en the ocupación that involves the most part of our lives: Work.

As occupational therapists who understand the occupation as the motor and guide of human existence, we have this double commitment to defend and protect the right to work in decent conditions.

For labor rights and the right to work for everyone and ours too, we remember this date and we assume the responsibility of fighting for it.

Today the certificate of specialist in Community Mental Health and Clinical Psychology were delivered to diferentes health professionals, including occupational therapist colleagues.

We have an extract of the note published by the Ministry of Health of the Nation and we share it so you can read it:

“For the first time, the Ministry is registering occupational therapists in its records of specialists, who until now were trained in residences, but did not have the possibility of registering as specialists. Based on the regulatory changes and the incorporation of new processes, registration as specialists of all health professions that are established by law is allowed.

Along this traject, the Argentine Association of Occupational Therapy had a key role in achieving regulatory changes and accompanying the intereses of the professional group.”

World Brain Health Day

Throughout our lives we develop our brain and it is not the exception when we are older people, it continues in movement and creation.

Neuroplasticity allows us to generate new possibilities of actions from our daily lives through new experiences.

The advice that we give you from the Gerontology Chapter is that you can make activities that give you pleasure, that speaks of your career, your desires and interests.

As well as pose challenges in activities already known or activities not yet explored.
