News from Member Organisations December 2022 - Taiwan

Occupational therapy in Taiwan is dedicated to health promotion from a holistic perspective, including physically, mentally, ADL-based, social participation related and wellbeing. Taiwan Occupational Therapy Association (TOTA) has celebrated its 40th anniversary by holding the 2022 international conference and Taiwan-Japan Occupational Therapy Joint Symposium on December 3rd-4th, 2022. The main theme of the 2022 TOTA international conference was “Enrich, Empower, and Enjoy Your Life”. We invited several prestigious speakers who have outstanding achievements and major impacts in the relevant fields. Throughout this conference, speakers had provided a deeper perspective of the current view of occupational therapy and health care around the world.

Aside from the conference, Taiwan-Japan occupational therapy joint symposium was another highlight. Taiwan-Japan occupational therapy joint symposium was first founded in 2017, held by TOTA and Japan Association of Occupational Therapy (JAOT), as a platform to empower more communication between two countries and enhance our quality in occupational therapy. The theme for this year was “Health and Well-being for Interdisciplinary Talents of Precision Health”, targeting two areas: post-acute care for adults and children with developmental disabilities. We invited guest speakers from Japan, America, and Taiwan. Each country shared its practical experiences and related researches in both areas. During panel discussion, the audience and speakers exchanged opinions, clinical issues and policy differences among countries.

In order to strengthen our cooperation between Japan and Taiwan, we also signed an agreement for academic exchange and cooperation. We hope to create more opportunities for students and therapists from both countries to learn from each other. The topics of our upcoming Taiwan-Japan occupational therapy joint symposium 2023 will be “Professional continuing education” & “Community Inclusive services for people with mental health conditions”, which will be held in Okinawa, Japan.
